“Not this time. I have an incentive to stay in town.” His voice was low, intense, and there was no mistaking
what he meant. He’d come to a decision. This was a battle he didn’t intend to lose. The time had come
and she needed to understand.

She was his.

Her back still faced him, but he saw a definite change in her stance. It was slight, and if he hadn’t been
watching her so intently he might have missed it. She understood exactly what he meant.

Instead of responding however, she muttered something about finding her shoes.

“Jade? I have your shoes.” His words forced her to turn around. He held out flat sandals, which she took
wordlessly.

“Thanks,” she mumbled, but wouldn’t meet his gaze. She fumbled around in her purse for her keys.

“Aren’t you going to ask me what my incentive is?” He wanted – no needed – her to ask.

Maybe she already knew the answer. The past couple days, hell, years, had been building up to this
moment. She might not be prepared for the truth, but it was coming out anyway. He was sick of carrying
this burden.

“What is it?” Long, heavy lashes lifted and their gazes collided. The question came out as a whisper and
almost seemed to stick in her throat.

“You.” The word hung in the air, suspended by an invisible string
.
...Their characters are well developed and I liked Jade and her down-
to-earth attitude......Both the love and action scenes are equally
exciting and I will definitely look for more of this author’s work.

“Robert?” When he didn’t answer, she pushed open the bathroom door.

A small gasp escaped her. Instead of finding Robert, Dane leaned against the marble top vanity wearing
nothing, not even a towel. He was shaving, and stopped mid stroke to look at her. Surprise registered on
his face although he didn’t attempt to cover up.

“I’m so sorry, I should have knocked.” She struggled to shut the door. Her foot caught once before it finally
slipped into place. Leaning on the wall for support, her entire body shook as she ran a ragged hand
through her hair. What was wrong with her? She had seen naked men before, especially in show
business.

Wiping sweaty palms on her jeans, she called out. “Where’s Robert?”

Seconds later, the door opened, but at least he was clothed. Barely. A towel hung from his trim hips, but
with his bare chest exposed, she found it increasingly harder to breathe.

“Sorry about that. They don’t have any more rooms available until tomorrow morning. Robert said I could
use stay here until then.”

“Oh, of course. No, that’s great...I just wanted to let Robert know that I’d be late for dinner.”

Despite the even temperature in the room, she could actually feel the heat spreading up her neck and
cheeks. Sometimes she hated being a redhead for that very reason.

“I’ll let him know.” The corners of his lips curled up.

Not exactly a smile, but she was under the impression he was laughing at her.

“Okay.” She stood there for another moment, blatantly staring at his half-clothed body. When she realized
what she was doing, she mumbled something unintelligible even to herself, and retreated to her room.
